Ham, Gruyère and Caramelized Onions Open Muffin Sandwich

Prepared with your classic Thomas"® English Muffins, these ham, gruyere, and caramelized onions sandwiches are delicious and great for breakfast or brunch.

Caramelized Onions

  • 2-3 Large Onions sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Open sandwiches

  • 3 Thomas “® English Original Nooks and Crannies® muffins split in halves
  • 6 slices cooked ham
  • 12 tbsp shredded Gruyere cheese 2 tbsps per muffin


To caramelized the onions

  • Heat two tablespoons of oil in a large pan over medium heat, add the onions, stirring every few minutes until onions are golden brown. Set aside.

To make the open sandwiches

  • Heat the oven at 400° F
  • Hand or fork-split the Thomas'® Original Nooks and Crannies® English Muffins in half. Line a sheet with foil and place English muffins halves. Top with ham slices, shredded cheese, and caramelized onions
  • Bake for about 3 to 5 minutes until cheese is melted.
