DIY-Painted Seashells Necklaces

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc and its advertiser. All opinions and the painted seashells idea are mine alone #BringTheTropicsHome #CollectiveBias.

I was blessed to grow up in a tropical island where summer is almost all year around; and going to the beach every weekend was very common. The Beach was my park! I remember as a little girl playing in the sand with my sisters, making sand castles and collecting caracoles (seashells) that we eventually would take home to use for all kinds of crafts.

Something funny is that although my daughter is not growing up near the beach; she LOVES seashells! so when summer comes and we get to go to the beach, she starts collecting all kinds of seashells. A couple of years ago we went to the island of Puerto Rico and she fell in love with the beaches over there. We got to collect so many caracoles (seashells).

Today I want to share an easy kids-friendly craft that you can do with your kids this Summer: Painted Seashells Necklaces. This would be the perfect outdoor activity for you kids!

All you need is:

  • Seashells ( You don’t have to go to beach for these, you can find them right at your local craft store)
  • Washable paint
  • Small Paint brush
  • 1 cup of water (to wash brush)
  • Strings

You can buy the seashells already drilled or you can do it yourself (adults only), make a little hole in the seashell using a small rotary tool; I actually used a manicure drill (nail thin filing cone). See picture below.

1-Paint the seashells and let them dry out completely.

2-Loop some string through the seashell hole and tie a knot in the end.

Pretty Seashell necklaces (Lindos collares de caracoles)

Keep in mind that it can get a little messy due to the paint, but that’s ok, because I use all® Fresh Tropical Mist™ so I just keep bringing the freshness of the tropics home with the trusted cleaning power of all®. Its smells so good and fresh! Your pequeños (little ones) clothing will be new again with all®’s trusted stain fighting power to fight not only washable paint, but the toughest kids stains like grass, mud and grape juice.

Fresh Tropical Mist is all®’s newest scent offering and I found it right by the cleaning and laundry supplies aisle at my local Shoprite! plus, it cost 30% less than the leading brand.

Aren’t these the cutest painted seashells ever?

My daughter loves them and so will your child. Let’s get Crafty!

By the way, If you want to bring the tropics home with and all® which contains in-wash pre-treaters for great stain removal you can get this coupon or to find NEW fresh tropical mist in store near you, visit all®’s website and click where to buy!

DIY-Distressed Mason Jars

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions and ideas are mine alone. #SienteGlade #CollectiveBias

Although my blog is mostly about food and recipes; now and then I like to write and share pictures about my travels as well as my DIY projects.

El día de hoy (Today) I want to share one of my favorites DIY projects: Distressed Mason Jars.

Me encantan (I love) Mason Jars…

Mason Jars are so versatile; can be use for decoration as well as for storing herbs and spices en mi cocina (in my kitchen).

Also, I like to use the jars as flatware organizers. Asi es! (that’s right!) If you are having a gathering or a picnic, mason jars are perfect to organize all your utensils.

Give the Jars your persona touch: A couple of days ago, as I was getting ready to light a Glade® Radiant Berries™ Candle, (which I found at my local Target!) and the idea of decorating Mason Jars, inspired in the colors of berries, came to me. Perfecto! (Perfect) Adding some color to my DIY will surely make my home feel bright and full of energy.

I’m telling you, Glade® Radiant Berries™ Candles or PlugIns® Scented Oil bring a bright feeling into your life.

Now let’s get ready to add some color to our Mason Jars ?

To distress the Jars you will need:

  • Chalked paint (found at any craft store)
  • Mason Jars
  • A small paintbrush or sponge.
  • A nail File (not show in the picture)

This DIY is so simple, just follow these steps.

  • First, Start with one coat of paint. Let the Mason Jars dry completely (about 1 hour)
  • Second, apply a second coat of paint. Let the Jars dry for about 12 hours ( I did it overnight)
  • Third, using a nail file; start distressing your jars. Start with the top and along the lines, any letters or pictures.
  • Now, your jars are ready!

Facil verdad! (easy right!) You can use them for parties, as flowers pots, or simply decoration.

I love DIYs, especially when they brighten my life, like the new Glade® Radiant Berries™ Candles and Plugins® Scented Oil.

In the Dominican Republic the long Easter holiday weekend is usually used to go away with the family. To visit the beaches, balnearios (outdoor natural spas) and rivers are very common for this time of the year. For those who prefer to stay home and do not want to deal with the tumult of people in public places, the Holy week, especially Pascua, is spent with family and friends at home, relaxing or playing Dominó (Dominoes) and eating delicious food after attending church.

Oh how I miss the island life…

Although, We cannot go to the beach here on the tri-state area because it is too cold, we can still enjoy “Pascua” by getting together with families and friends and ofcourse, eating yummy food.
